I have many fond memories of my Uncle, and the first one that comes to mind was the Beverly Hills house. My grandfather and grandmother lived with Uncle and we would go visit them on weekends starting when I was in elementary school all the way thru high school. Uncle was always very nice to me, and I noticed that he was a very patient man, especially with all of my cousins. He also took really good care of Grandfather and Grandmother. I always enjoyed going to his house to see all of the relatives because it was such a fun time.
When I went off to college, Uncle came to visit me at Berkeley, and we had dinner at a Japanese restaurant because it was one of his favorite foods. He happened to be in the San Francisco Bay Area for business. Uncle was so intelligent and a man beyond his years, as he was working on artificial intelligence at that time, which was the early 1990’s. It meant so much to me that he took the time to come see me. Throughout the years, Uncle was always watching the progression of my life and career from afar, and whenever I spoke to him, he would provide me with guidance to continue to work hard and be a good family man. This is advice I will never forget and I will pass on to my kids as well.
Last month, I saw Uncle when I came to visit Taiwan with my family. We met up with the relatives and uncle for dinner at a restaurant. Uncle was late because he was working so hard on a project, and he took the subway by himself to the restaurant. I had not seen uncle for a few years, but he looked his usual self – happy, peaceful, and content. He told me that he had just got back from a business trip in Japan the night before. Afterwards, we all took a walk around the shopping mall. I am so happy and fortunate that I got to spend time with uncle. And I’m so glad that my two kids got to spend some quality time with him and get to know him.
Uncle was such a great man. I will miss him dearly.
